2025 EOY: Inside Year One of MD4CA

December 15, 2025

As we close out the year, the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California (LCHC) and the More Doctors for California (MD4CA) campaign want to extend our deep appreciation to everyone who has been part of this coordinated effort to grow a representative Latino physician workforce in our state.

Below is a wrap-up of what we accomplished together in 2025, along with ways to stay connected in the new year.

Reflecting on 2025

In late 2024, following extensive conversations among coalition partners, LCHC was asked to lead as the organizing entity for MD4CA. Even as the socio-political landscape grew increasingly unstable, with federal actions targeting Latino communities, threats to safety-net programs, and a widening state budget deficit — partners came together with a shared belief that this work could not wait.

By early 2025, LCHC formally assumed leadership and began supporting partners in moving this vision from concept to a coordinated strategy. With guidance from stakeholders across education, healthcare, philanthropy, and advocacy, we shaped a multi-year approach grounded in alignment, policy advocacy, and narrative change.

Standing up this campaign required deliberate, foundational work. Building shared infrastructure, defining a clear brand direction, aligning policy and narrative strategy, and socializing a unified vision across sectors.

This unfolded during a uniquely challenging year, yet partners continued to show up with clarity, commitment, and a shared sense of purpose. Because of this collective effort, MD4CA has begun to take shape publicly, gaining visibility and momentum as a coordinated statewide effort focused on long-term system transformation.

A few highlights from 2025:

  • Hosted our second convening in July in Pasadena with 40+ members from 30+ organizations
  • Conducted 50+ legislative meetings introducing MD4CA's core problem, solutions, and 11-initiative framework
  • Strengthened alignment with the California Latino Caucus to support physician workforce funding during a difficult budget year
  • Helped safeguard key state investments for programs like CMSP, PRIME Central Coast, GME initiatives, and grant and scholarship pathways
  • Secured multi-year philanthropic commitments to support MD4CA's work
  • Held a statewide virtual panel with leaders in healthcare and policy, drawing 80+ guests
  • Publicly unveiled MD4CA on October 1, reaching audiences across California
  • Launched our narrative change campaign, reaching 17,000+ people in its first three months

Looking Ahead to 2026
